The weekend gone by Pr Daniel, along with a team from CTFM ministered in Kangaroo Island in South Australia.

We thank our almighty King of kings and LORD of lords for His awesome hand at work at all the Holy Spirit revival meeting held at the Uniting Church, where many believers from others churches came to Catch the Fire and to Rise Up Australia for Jesus!

Pr Daniel stated, “We thank and praise God for the remnant He has preserved in every denomination who have refused to bow down to political correctness in the Church.”

Many gathered at the revival meetings on Saturday evening, Sunday morning and evening, as so many people received a mighty touch from the Spirit of God and were tremendously blessed. A young Buddhist woman, who was powerfully touched by the Word of God and the Testimonies shared at the meeting, came to the altar for prayer as she could not have children.

This young woman gave her life to Jesus at the altar. Then prompted by the Holy Spirit, Pr Daniel and the CTFM team started praying for this young woman, who was by this time lying on the ground under the anointing. As they started breaking generational curses, the woman started manifesting with many demons, and one by one, as the people watched and prayed, the demons left the young woman. And after about 45 minutes she was set free.

This young woman who came to the altar for prayer, with a very down cast face,  left that night with a glowing face as Jesus radically transformed her life. She said,  “I want my husband also to accept Jesus.” Glory to God her husband also gave his life to Jesus the next day. Their friends and family were all rejoicing.

Many others were healed, delivered and set free by the power of God.

We also thank God, that many more people were absolutely excited to hear the news of Rise Up Australia Party – To Keep Australia Australian. We thank God now South Australia is also beginning to shape up to run candidates in the 2013 Federal Election.

Pr Daniel stated, “We thank God for the faithful team of Rise Up Australia prayer warriors who pray every month on the Island. We pray that town after town, city after city, state after state will catch the passion of prayer and storm the heavens for the salvation and transformation of our nation.”

This latest DVD is the first of a trilogy under the general heading of ‘Blessing Curse or Coincidence’. The world premier screening of this latest version was shown at the ICEJ Feast of Tabernacles in Jerusalem in October 2011.

(Washington, DC)-Former White House aide Timothy Goeglein, who served as a liaison between President George W. Bush and faith-based leaders, experienced a precipitous fall from grace when he was exposed for plagiarism.

Now, in his memoir entitled “The Man in the Middle,” Goeglein-who admits he was deceptive and his crime was rooted in pride-shares how President Bush graciously forgave him.

Explaining that he prepared himself for a “much-deserved woodshed moment” in initially facing the president, instead-as reported in Baptist Press News-he says he came face-to-face with the “greatest professional moment of his life.”“Tim,” said President Bush, “I want you to know I forgive you.”

When Goeglein tried to interrupt him to explain the severity of his transgression, Bush reportedly said, “Tim, I have known mercy and grace in my own life, and I am offering it to you now. You are forgiven.”

Not only that, but according to the report, the president also said, “I would like you to bring Jenny and your two sons here to the Oval Office so I can tell them what a great husband and father you are.”

In a State of the Union-like speech before March elections, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei tries hard — very hard — to delude the masses

ISTANBUL— (TCSM) Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei vowed that Iran would not “retreat” on its nuclear program, and warned that any military strike “will be 10 times more detrimental to the US” than to Iran.

In a defiant speech delivered at Friday prayers at Tehran University, Ayatollah Khamenei portrayed the Islamic Republic as an omnipotent, triumphant regional player whose revolutionary example was the “biggest success in modern history,” even as the US and NATO were “becoming weaker and weaker.”

He claimed that Iran is the vanguard of an Arab world “Islamic Awakening,” which brought down three dictators in the past year, and said Iran would support “any group in the world” fighting Israel.

Coming just days before the 33rd anniversary of Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, Khamenei’s near-exultant speech — Iran’s annual equivalent of a State of the Union address — elucidated Iran’s current worldview as pressure mounts toward conflict. But his declarations of Iranian influence abroad were also counterbalanced by his acknowledgement of “weaknesses” and political division at home. With parliamentary elections due in one month, Khamenei criticized the “blame game” between President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s administration and other conservative elements of the regime, and lectured: “Unity is the cure to lots of ailments in our country.”

Mr. Ahmadinejad sat alongside key rival politicians, clerics, and Revolutionary Guard commanders in the front two rows among thousands of the faithful at Tehran University.

Khamenei hinted at his concern over the upcoming vote — the first since the 2009 presidential election, which sparked weeks of violent street protests that commanders have since acknowledged brought the regime closer to collapse than any other single event.

Khamenei appealed for a high turnout, telling Iranians that this would “immunize” the country against outside threats. “The more turnout, the greater your power will be,” he said.

But that domestic concern was overshadowed by Khamenei’s more powerful delivery as he reinforced Iran’s longstanding regional policies.

Referring to Israel, the ayatollah said, “The Zionist regime is really the cancerous tumor in this region and it needs to be removed and it will be removed,” according to a simultaneous English translation on state-run PressTV.

Khamenei pointed to the Occupy Wall Street movement, “heavy-handed [US] police” treatment, and protests in Europe, as signs of Western decay. He said some experts had compared the West today to the crumbling Soviet Union of the late 1980s, which was “swept away” because it had “no logic.”

Khamenei specifically addressed the American policy that “all options are on the table” — including military strikes — regarding Iran’s nuclear program.

“Now why is this to the detriment of the US, the threats that they make?” asked Khamenei. “Because making threats shows the weakness of the US in embarking on dialogue…. When it comes to the battle of thoughts and wisdom, they [Americans] cannot conquer … which means that America has no logic but force [and] bloodshed, that’s the only way they find to push their agenda, and this discredits the US further.”

Khamenei added: “They should know … in return for threats of oil embargo and threats of war, we have our own threats, and when the times comes, we will make those threats.”

The cleric’s words were greeted with chants of “We are ready,” and at other times with “death to America” and “death to Israel.”

Khamenei urged caution in dealing with the “enemy,” though it was not explicit that his words were to be applied to any upcoming nuclear negotiations with US and other world powers.

“We should not fall for the smile on the face of the enemy,” Khamenei said. “We have had our experience the last 30 years…. We should not be cheated by their false promises and words, they break their promises very easily … they feel no shame … they simply utter lies.”

SANCTIONS PUSH IRAN TO BE SELF-SUFFICIENT — AND THAT’S GOOD

Iran’s supreme religious leader showed no sign that new sanctions imposed by the US and European Union on Iran’s central bank and its economic lifeline of oil exports would turn Iran from its nuclear ambitions, as Western officials say they are designed to do.

UN Security Council resolutions require Iran to stop enriching uranium until it resolves remaining questions with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) about alleged weapons-related work in the past. Iran says its program aims only to produce nuclear energy.

Sanctions have begun to bite hard. Yet though the economy has shown marked decline in recent months — and the Iranian currency lost half its value since October before beginning to right itself last week — Khamenei said sanctions were beneficial to Iran, by forcing it to be self-sufficient and to set an example to Arab revolutionaries not to fear the West.

One example was the announced launch into space today of another Iranian satellite, just hours before Friday prayers. Ahmadinejad helped launch the homemade satellite — Iran’s third, this one called “Good message of science and industry” — saying he hoped it “will send a signal of more friendship among all human beings.”

“They said they would impose crippling, torturous, painful sanctions on us,” said Khamenei. But decades of sanctions had prompted Iran’s “great military achievements” these days.

“If they had set up the Bushehr nuclear power plant themselves, then we would not have this progress in enrichment. If they had not closed the gates of science on us, then we would not be progressing on space exploration, and sending satellites into orbit,” said Khamenei. “So the more sanctions they impose against us, the more we turn to our own domestic power, skills and youths, and these talents [are] like a spring.”

PRAISE FOR ARAB REVOLTS — EXCEPT IN SYRIA
Khamenei delivered the second portion of his speech in Arabic, to directly address Arab revolutionaries — and portray Iran as a pan-Islamic supporter of Islamic jihad and people’s justice.

He praised the removal of dictators in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, and Yemen, but did not mention that NATO airstrikes enabled rebels to topple Col. Muammar Qaddafi in Libya. Nor did he once mentionSyria, where Iran’s closest regional ally, Bashar al-Assad, faces a similar people-power revolt that has left at least 6,000 dead so far.

“The century of Islam has come,” said Khomeini, stating that Iran’s example in 1979 paved the way by toppling a pro-American, pro-Israeli monarch. He claimed that “anger toward America” had increased 85 percent in Arab countries in the past year.

“The Arab people can no longer put up with the dictators,” Khamenei said. “They can no longer put up with agents and spies [of the US and Israel] and tyrants in control. They are sick of this….”

Khamenei said “the revolutions must continue their march,” and issued another warning: “Don’t trust America and NATO … they are becoming weaker and weaker very quickly. Their control on the Islamic world was only a result of our fear and our ignorance for 150 years.”

We thank and praise God once again for sending His anointed servants among us at CTFM in Hallam, Melbourne to set the captives free in the name of Jesus!

Even though Pastor Jay had to get back to the US, the Spirit of God mightily used his team members to continue to pray in Jesus name to set many people free from demonic possession and oppression! It was so great to see people just lighting up with the joy of the Lord, once the demons left them.

One lady who had been attending our CTFM worship services and had been under severe spiritual attack for months, constantly battling thoughts of suicide, often looking very unhappy,  went up for prayer and after some hours of ministry, was set free! Yesterday she was dancing, laughing and praising God!

Another young lady, a mother of 2 children, who is very quiet and shy, appeared to be the type of person that you would never think has anything wrong with her. Certainly, you would never believe that she has any demons. Yet, all glory to God, when this lady came up for prayer, she had major deliverance in the name of Jesus! In the natural, this young lady will never ever do the things she did as the demons started manifesting in her body. Glory to God after about 45 minutes of prayer, she was completely set free! Then she jumped up and started just laughing with joy! A major door way was opened for demons to get in when she had an abortion. The young lady repented and through God’s grace was set free!

Another woman came up for prayer and started crying as she said, “for nine years I was raped, I hate the man who did it to me.” Her husband also came up on stage with her. All glory to God after prayer this woman was able to name the man who raped her and forgive him. Immediately the demons lost their legal right to live inside her. Glory to God the demons started manifesting and all the people started rebuking the devil and shouted, “In Jesus name come out!” Thank you Jesus this woman was set free after many years of living in bondage, and having terrible fits of anger.

A young man whose parents had separated many years ago and is now living with his father ,who is now born again, came up for prayer several times in the last few days and was set free from many demons! Very often when a marriage breaks up, there are so many children whose hearts are terribly broken as they do not want to see mum and dad separate. Unfortunately, these broken hearts of these children very often become big doors ways through which satan enters their lives.

Pr Daniel stated, ”We need to cry out to the Lord for help as the church in Australia desperately needs great deliverance and healing. With what I have seen in the past few days and what I have known for the past several years the church is in terrible bondage. Let us flush our pride down the toilet bowl and repent as in 2 Chronicles 7 : 14 and ask the Lord to heal our land. I am so excited for those who received their freedom, but I know that there are thousands of Christians out there who need help and freedom. I am praying and asking God to open this new river which is starting to flow at CTFM to the whole nation by making this ministry available for people who needed it.”

‘Hi Danny,

I was watching the webcast live on my computer on Sunday evening 12th Feb., 2012 in  NSW. After Ps Jay Bartlett prayed over the people who went forward for prayer about word curses, I also “went forward” so to speak and before God, I prayed about any bad words said over me as either a child or an adult. I have also repented and renounced any word curses that I have said to anyone too, including those said to my husband, children and family etc. As I was praying in tongues during the webcast, suddenly these ugly loud hissing noises came out of my mouth and my body slightly contorted (shook). I then I felt some evil things being “lifted” away from my body. I knew that unknown demons were being driven out of me, in the name of Jesus and through His precious blood. PTL !

If people missed this webcast with Ps. Jay Bartlett, I hope they can get a DVD copy of it or perhaps CTFM could do a “Podcast” and upload the Sunday evening session on their website? I know Ps. Jay has a website with FREE downloadable resources – especially a 35 page PDF document called “Demon Encounters – Defeating Devils in the Name of Jesus.” Amazing stuff.

It would be so good to see more Christians being set free of demons and coming into the complete freedom of Christ. Imagine the worship that would follow and the increase of Kingdom activity on earth, before the Lord returns. Hallelujah!

A mob of over 3000 Muslims attacked Copts in the village of Kobry-el-Sharbat (el-Ameriya), Alexandria this afternoon. Coptic homes and shops were looted before being set ablaze. Two Copts and a Muslim were injured. The violence started after a rumor was spread that a Coptic man had an allegedly intimate photo of a Muslim woman on his mobile phone. The Coptic man, Mourad Samy Guirgis, surrendered to the police this morning morning for his protection.

According to eyewitnesses, the perpetrators were bearded men in white gowns. “They were Salafists, and some of were from the Muslim Brotherhood,” according to one witness. It was reported that terrorized women and children who lost their homes were in the streets without any place to go.

According to Father Boktor Nashed from St. George’s Church in el-Nahdah, a meeting between Muslim and Christian representatives was supposed to take place in the evening in Kobry-el-Sharbat. But, by 3 P.M. a Muslim mob looted and torched the home of Mourad Samy Guirgis, as well as the home of his family and three homes of Coptic neighbors. A number of Coptic-owned shops and businesses were also looted and torched. “We contacted security forces, but they arrived very, very late,” Said Father Nashad. The fire brigade was prevented from going into the village by the Muslims and the fires were left to burn themselves out. “Those who lost their home, left the village,” said Father Nashed.Coptic activist Mariam Ragy, who was covering the violence in Kobry-el-Sharbat , said it took the army 1 hour to drive 2 kilometers to the village. “This happens every time. They wait outside the village until the Muslims have had enough violence, then they appear.” She said that she spoke to many Copts from the village this evening who said that although their homes were not attacked, Muslims stood in the street asking them to come to their homes to hide. “They believed that this was a new trick to make them leave, so that Muslims would loot and torch their homes while they were away,” said Ragy.

The Gov of Alexandria visited al-Nahda, near Kobry-el-Sharbat, this evening and told elYoum 7 newspaper that the two Copts and one Muslim who were injured were transported to hospital. He said that the family of the Muslim girl whose image was on the Copt’s mobile phone wanted revenge from the Coptic man. They broke into his home and torched a furniture factory located in the same building.

Joseph Malak, a lawyer for the Coptic Church in Alexandria, said it is too early to count injuries to Copts or losses to their property.

Mr. Mina Girguis, of the Maspero Youth Union in Alexandria, said that “collective punishment of Copts for someone else’s mistake, which is yet to be determined, is completely unacceptable.” He believes that the reason for this violence is fabricated, and the military is behind it. “They are trying to divert the attention from the second revolution which is taking place now.”

Father Nashed denied that Islamists were present, only ordinary village Muslims, and could not give an explanation as why people who have lived together amicably for years could commit such violence. “Maybe because of lack of security, they think that they can do as they please.”

He said that the nearly 65 Coptic families were ordered to stay indoors and not to open their shops and businesses tomorrow. He added that security forces did not arrest any of the perpetrators, “on the contrary, they were begging the mob to go home.”

By midnight the violence had subsided.

1) What an amazing few days it has been!  We thank and praise God for Pr Jay Bartlett from the US and his team who were willing to take on an area of ministry which is very much neglected in the body of Christ, which is casting out demons and setting the captives free. Someone once said Salvation is free but everything else is very expensive. This is so true.

Many believe that once you are born again that you cannot have demons. This is not true. Many born again believers of Christ are living in bondage and are crying out for help, but the church unfortunately seems to be not able to help them or not willing to help them, as it is indeed a very complicated area to step into.

I have cast demons out of many born again Christians in ministry across the nations and seen them move into complete freedom in Christ Jesus our Lord and Saviour. But I must say, I don’t think I have ever seen so many people being set free from demons as in the last 4 days. The past few days has certainy taken our church into a new place in the Lord.

The CTFM worship team took the people into an awesome place in the Lord in worship, even before the pastor could minister. One young man stated, “If this is the entree, I just can’t wait for the main course”.  This young man had deliverance back in August.

He stated, ‘’I never thought that I had any demons. I thought I was a good Christian. When Pr Jay prayed for me I thought ‘What is this guy on about?’, but then suddenly I felt something beginning to start rising inside me and taking control of my mouth and body. Out of my mouth came these strange words, and then suddenly this thing left me.  From that day on I was free from these demons, Hallelujah!  I soon realised that I have been set free from the spirit of fear, anger and anxiety. Today I am a very different man than who I was. It has also really changed my whole attitude towards my wife and children”.

I know this young man personally. What is also very amazing is that in the last few months he has lost 60kg. People who knew him before cannot even recognise him.

People who I would have never ever thought could have demons got set free in the past few days. One couple whose marriage was on the verge of breaking up had deliverance. It was amazing to see the husband kneeling beside his wife and the two of them being reconciled by the grace of God. They spoke to me after the meeting and said that they had never been to a meeting like this one before, and how they feel that new life has returned back into their family.

Another couple, the wife could not hold the bible or read it. After deliverance she held the bible in her hands and started reading verse after verse. She and her husband testified and gave God the glory. A another young boy who had recently rededicated his life to Jesus was standing at the altar and worshipping Jesus. Then suddenly he started screaming and rolling on the ground. He was set free of many demons. This young man had deliverance for almost 3 hours.

Another lady was brought up to the stage manifesting with demons, when Pr Jay asked the demons name, the demon responded, “I am executioner, she is mine. You cannot have her”. Well glory to God about 30 minutes later this woman was set free. A young girl was brought up to the stage, she had been wanting to commit suicide as she was unhappy with her appearance. Well glory to God this young girl’s mum and dad also came on stage and prayed together with us. A few minutes later this girl was set free from the demon of suicide. I saw her later on in the night praying in Jesus name, hallelujah!

I just could go on and on with testimony after testimony of people who were set free over the past few days. All I can say is that thousands of demons were cast out of dozens of people. Each night the meetings finished around 1am. On Sunday night when I left the building it was around 12 midnight and there were still around 150 people at the meeting just soaking in the presence of God.

Glory to God I can see the breakthrough that we all have been praying for on its way, and already starting to happen! Demons are real. Do not under estimate them. But glory to God we have more power than demons. Jesus won the battle for us on the cross of Calvary 2000 years ago. He defeated death, hell and the grave and gave us complete victory. We only need to stand strong in Jesus name and dwell in His presence day and night. We need to spend time reading His word, worshipping and praying as much as possible.

Yes my dear friend, there is Victory in the name of Jesus. You can rise up and be victorious in Jesus name.

Tonight is the last meeting with Bro Steve at 7pm (Tues 14 Feb). We have to unfortunately cancel the Wednesday night meeting as Ps Jay has to depart Melbourne to the US on Tuesday morning, as he was not successful in changing his flights. On Tuesday night Bro Steve, one of Pr Jay’s team members will be ministering at the service.

As Jesus was standing by the Sea of Galilee, there was a great number of people who had been following Him and they gathered together to hear Him speak. (Mark 4:1-20.) He got into a boat and pushed away from the shore. Facing thousands of people, He began to speak.

He told the story of a man who went out to sow seed. Some of the seed fell by the wayside, some fell on stony ground, and some fell among thorns. None of these seeds produced a worthy crop. But other seed that was sown fell on good ground and produced up to a hundredfold. Jesus concluded by saying, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” (v.9).

As soon as Jesus got alone with His disciples, they questioned Him about this story concerning the seed, because they obviously didn’t understand what He was talking about.

Jesus told them that to the multitudes what He said would just be a parable or a story. He went on to say that those who were on the inside could understand the mystery of the Kingdom of God. Then focusing on His disciples, He told them that this parable was the key to all the parables. Then He began to reveal the mystery. He said, “The sower sows the word” (v.14), and He said the soil was the hearts of men. Jesus didn’t say that the sower sowed money, time, or things. Jesus said, “The sower sows the word.”How do we sow the Word into the hearts of men?

Just before Jesus ascended, He gave His followers a command. He told them to go and make disciples and to teach them everything that they had been taught by Him. (Matt. 28:19-20.) In other words, take the Word to the world and place it in the hearts of men.

Years ago there was a nation who had developed a powerful bomb. However, they were not a threat to any of the surrounding nations because they had no missile or delivery system. In the same way, the seed (the Word) is powerful and can turn a nation upside down. But unless man can deliver the Word to the hearts of men, it is of no effect.

The Word (seed) is supplied in abundance by God. There is no shortage of Word. When you give financially, you are actually sowing into the delivery system. The money you give into ministries is not “the seed.” Remember, the seed is the Word of God. But your money enables churches, ministries, and organizations to deliver the seed to the soil (hearts of people) where it will explode upon impact and change their lives forever.

When you give into ministries, it is extremely important that you give where the finances are converted into Word and taken to the world. Only then is the Word sown into good soil.

So the next time you plan your giving, place your financial seed into a ministry that has a heart for teaching the Word to the world. The seed (the Word) is always good, but the harvest (thirty, sixty, hundredfold) depends upon where it is sown. The delivery system is extremely important! The Word of God is always pure, anointed, full of life, and does not change. The variable is where it is sown, and that is determined by the delivery system.

 Rise Up Australia Party was registered with the Electoral Commission this week and is ready to take its place as the new face of common sense in Australian politics at the next Federal election.

 According to Party President Daniel Nalliah, its slogan of Keep Australia Australian sums up what Rise Up Australia is all about. “We want to restore to Australia the common sense values and traditions which have made this country one of the best and most stable democracies in the world” he said in Melbourne today.

 “For too long over recent years we have seen a slide into a politically correct  “nanny state” where minorities are dictating their fringe element views to the rest of mainstream society and demanding we all conform. For example, free speech is under threat in this country under the Racial and Religious Vilification laws which prevent open public discussion about Islamization in Western countries. These laws needs to be repealed,” said Mr Nalliah.

Mr Nalliah fought a five year court battle with the Islamic Council of Victoria who sued him for reading out of a Koran in public. He was totally vindicated, but this sort of thing should not be happening in our country where tolerance, a fair go and free speech have always been part of our traditional heritage.

Rise Up Australia Party recently commented on the story from a major Dutch newspaper where Jihad was declared on dogs, when a Muslim  politician tried to have dogs banned from the Hague on religious grounds. In case you think that couldn’t happen in Australia, the Queensland media  carried a story some time back about the Yellow Taxi Cab company in Brisbane having to sack Muslim taxi drivers who refused to carry blind people because they were accompanied by guide dogs.“This is not about religion” said Mr Nalliah. “The Australian Constitution says the government cannot make laws in respect of religion. Contrary to Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, and a host of other religions, Islam is an ideology which encompasses and prescribes rules for the religious, legal, social and private lives of Muslims which are contrary to the Aussie way of life.  The Sharia or “divine” law of Islam undermines the separation of powers and rule of law which is fundamental to our freedoms in this nation. “

In an ABC article on May 17 2011, Jacquelyn Hole reported that the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils made a submission to the Federal Parliament’s Committee on Multicultural Affairs, asking for Muslims to be able to marry, divorce and conduct its financial affairs under Sharia law, arguing that all Australians would benefit if Islamic laws were adopted as mainstream legislation.

Already we are seeing a division of public space such as separate swimming times for Muslim women in public swimming pools in Australia. This type of apartheid shows no respect for our culture or way of life in this country.

Australians are tolerant, easy going people who extend a helping hand to all immigrants who come to our shores. We are a nation of many races, many religions, many skin colours, many diverse ethnic backgrounds, and this is healthy and desirable, according to Mr Nalliah.

“But we only have one culture here, and that is Australian. I am a migrant to this great country. I came here because it offered me a better life than my original country of Sri Lanka. I love Australia, its  people and its way of life and I don’t want to see that undermined by cultures who have no desire to assimilate” Someone needs to stand up for our Australia  culture and values – which is the reason why people come here in the first place. I am willing to put my hand up and go to Parliament and tell the Government that the Aussie way of life is worth preserving” he said.

Rise Up Australia Party has many other issue they will tackle, such as restoring the Australian manufacturing industries, supporting Aussie farmers and producers, protecting the traditional family unit, and reversing the trend of catering to minorities at the expense of the mainstream majority.

“There are minority groups demanding all sorts of things which the average person does not want. We will field candidates across the nation for the Senate and the House of Representatives who are willing to stand up and be counted for the ordinary Aussie,” said Mr Nalliah.

Family links strong in Australian cells

FAMILY connections and friendships are at the core of the terrorist networks active in Australia over the past 12 years, a Monash University researcher has found.Most of the 57 people identified were recruited through close contact with friends or relatives involved in extremist groups.

Shandon Harris-Hogan drew maps of the links between violent jihadists in Australia, including people deported on security grounds, or reported missing or dead while engaged in terrorist activities overseas

The pattern he found is in keeping with studies of Fatah, Hamas, Hezbollah, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and Turkish terrorists, which revealed that about one in five involved individuals were direct kin, while seven in 10 were close friends as youths.

”You keep getting the same names,” he said. ”A lot have intermarried into each other’s families and have been convicted or involved in the same plots together.”

Mr Harris-Hogan, who had access to transcripts of police recordings from Operation Pendennis, Australia’s biggest terrorism investigation, found within the 15-member Melbourne cell led by Abdul Nacer Benbrika, now in jail,was a clique that included brothers, a cousin and a close childhood friend of Fadl Sayadi, a Benbrika lieutenant.

Moustafa Cheikho, from the Sydney cell, and his uncle, Khaled Cheikho, trained with Laksha e-Taiba in Pakistan. Khaled Cheikho was married to a relative of the terrorist associate Rabiyah Hutchinson.

Mohammed Omar Jamal, also convicted as part of the Sydney cell, is the brother of Saleh Jamal, who left Australia on a false passport in 2004, then spent two years in a Lebanese prison for terrorism offences. The Sydney cell leader, Mohamed Ali Elomar, is related to Hussein El Omar, who has appealed against a conviction for terrorism offences in Lebanon.

While there are some connections to individuals in family groups, the rest of those groups have no involvement and none is suggested.

Mr Harris-Hogan warned against stereotyping families and said some disapproving relatives had talked extremists into dropping out of radical groups.

Of the 57 jihadists whose back- ground he has studied, 24 trained in camps in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Lebanon, Somalia, Yemen, Malaysia or the Philippines. Since a US clampdown on militia camps in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq, the focus had shifted to Lebanon and Somalia, he found.

His colleague at the university’s global terrorism research centre, Andrew Zammit, has found that six in 10 of those who have faced terrorism charges in Australia have been Muslims of Lebanese descent, a phenomenon unique to this country.

Of 33 alleged jihadists in Australia since the September 11 attacks in the US, 20 were of Lebanese descent, while at least 16 Australians have been arrested in Lebanon over alleged terrorist activity, he found.

Violent jihad attempts have rarely emanated from Lebanese migrant communities in Europe and the US, even though they are much larger than Australia’s, Mr Zammit said.

”One explanation could be the social and economic disadvantage faced by Lebanese-Australian Muslims but that wouldn’t explain why a specific few dozen people turn to terrorism when tens of thousands in similar circumstances do not,” he said. ”Keep in mind that this is a small sample size and another set of arrests could significantly change the figures.”

Another terrorism analyst, Sam Mullins, a research fellow at Wollongong University’s centre for transnational crime prevention, said that the preponderance of terrorists of Lebanese heritage reflected Australia’s immigration history.

The campsite on the 50,000-hectare cattle station in the red dirt country at Louth was booked by phone in the name of Adam George.

Expecting a group of feral fox and pig hunters on safari to the back of Bourke, the property owner left directions in a mailbox and saw just one man, who simply called himself ”Joe”.

The company Joe kept alarmed the locals. The seven men – led by Aimen Joud from Melbourne and Mohamed Ali Elomar from Sydney – got lost and had to ask for directions.

”They stood out to the local community when they were driving through … Some of them were wearing camouflage fatigues … Some of them are large gentlemen, so just their physical presence stands out,” NSW Police terrorism investigations squad head Detective Inspector David Gawel, says.

Of course, Adam George was a fake name that had been previously used to try to buy laboratory gear to manufacture chemicals to build a bomb.

The men were on a training and bonding exercise, armed with .308 and .22 rifles and components of an explosive device.

The Louth trip, said the Victorian Court of Appeal last June, was the most significant of several group exercises between two terrorist cells based in Sydney and Melbourne whose members pledged allegiance to Abdul Nacer Benbrika, an Algerian-born pensioner sheikh living in Melbourne.

“Don’t do it.” That is the message American officials, from President Obama on down, are delivering to their Israeli counterparts in the hope of dissuading the Jewish state from taking a fateful step: attacking Iran to prevent the mullahs’ imminent acquisition of nuclear weapons.

This week, the nation’s top military officer, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Martin E. Dempsey, will visit Israel to convey the same message in person. If recent reports of other U.S. demarches are any guide, the general will deliver an insistent warning that Israel must give sanctions more time to work and refrain from acting unilaterally.

Such warnings have become shriller as evidence accumulates that Israel is getting ready to move beyond what is widely believed to be a series of successful – but insufficient – covert actions against the Iranian nuclear program, missile forces and associated personnel.

Some U.S. officials reportedly think the Israelis are just posturing. As one put it, they are playing out a “hold me back” gambit – perhaps hoping the Americans will do the job themselves or at least hoping to be rewarded for their restraint.Others point, however, to evidence that the Israelis are concealing key military movements from our intelligence assets as an indicator that they are going for it and want to keep us from interfering. At a minimum, Jerusalem would have to worry that an American administration that is holding secret negotiations with Tehran in Turkey at the level of Deputy Secretary of State William J. Burns would seek to curry favor with the mullahs by compromising any information it obtains about Israel’s intentions. At the end of the day, the fundamental difference between the United States and Israel is that the Israelis have laid down “red lines” with respect to the Iranian nuclear enterprise. One of them was crossed two weeks ago when the Iranians announced that they had started enriching uranium in a hardened and heavily defended underground facility near the city of Qom. Even the International Atomic Energy Agency – an organization that under its previous management incessantly obscured the true weapons purpose and steady progress of the Iranian nuclear program – views this step as ominous.

To be sure, the United States says it has red lines, too. It was just last week that Secretary of Defense Leon E. Panetta pronounced two: Iran would not be allowed either to acquire nuclear arms or to close the world’s energy pipeline that flows through the entrance to the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz.

The difference between the American and Israeli red lines, of course, is that the Israelis actually may take seriously the breaching of theirs. Presumably, that would be because the government of Israel has drawn them so as to define existential threats to the state, not simply as a matter of rhetorical posturing intended mostly for domestic political consumption.

By contrast, we know that at least some Obama administration officials are persuaded that the United States can live with a nuclear Iran. They are said to be working up plans to contain, or at least accommodate themselves to, such a prospect.

It is less clear whether Team Obama actually thinks it can tolerate the mullahs’ closure of the strait. After all, the oil and natural gas that flow through it from much of the Gulf’s littoral states would be severely affected. The effect would be dire for energy prices, U.S. allies and the world economy.

So far, though, in what may be seen from Tehran – whether rightly or wrongly – as submission to the new, Iranian-dictated order of things, we have chosen to remove all carrier battle groups from the Gulf. We also have yet to challenge Iranian assertions that our capital ships will be attacked if they try to return without Tehran’s permission.

Worse yet, even if President Obama actually wanted to enforce his administration’s red lines, he has further compromised America’s ability to do so with his wholesale abandonment of Iraq, draconian defense budget cuts and the emasculated national security strategy he claims is all we can afford.

Thus, the Israelis could reasonably view the United States as less than serious about the threats posed by Iran and as wholly unreliable when it comes to keeping them from metastasizing further. Under such circumstances, if the Jewish state feels it has no choice but to be deadly serious with respect to its red lines, its leaders must be expected to act as Iran violates them.

The likelihood for such action can only have grown as a result of the contempt with which Mr. Obama has treated Israel, our most important regional ally. Dissing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is one thing. Allowing our own red lines to be flouted with impunity signals that Israel is on its own and must proceed accordingly.

If we are going to stop the nightmare of a messianic regime armed with nuclear missiles, somebody had better do it soon – and with something more effective than sanctions. America should take the lead. However, if the Obama administration won’t, it should get out of the Israelis’ way.

Thirty-five Ethiopian Christians, 29 of them women, face deportation from Saudi Arabia for “illicit mingling” after police raided a private prayer gathering, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said on Monday.

The New York-based watchdog said the women were subjected to “unwarranted strip search”, while the men were beaten and insulted as “unbelievers”.

The London School of Economics [LSE] Student Union has passed a motion effectively making it impossible for students on campus to criticize Islam.

In response to the cartoon being posted, students at the London School of Economics forced through motions denouncing “Islamophobia” which defined the act as “a form of racism expressed through the hatred or fear of Islam, Muslims, or Islamic culture, and the stereotyping, demonisation or harassment of Muslims, including but not limited to portraying Muslims as barbarians or terrorists, or attacking the Qur’an as a manual of hatred.” Critics have argued that the loose terminology — i.e. Islamic culture — makes parody or criticism of Islam impossible.

There are no surprises in Release International’s list of predicted hotspots for persecution in 2012. If anything, the organisation fears the plight of Christians around the world may get worse.

The organisation has received reports from partners that Christians are coming under increasing suspicion in North Korea. Practising Christianity is banned in the closed-off communist country and anyone caught with a Bible faces torture, imprisonment and possibly death.

It is monitoring events closely following the death of dictator Kim Jong-il but there is little optimism that the change of leadership to Kim Jong-un will ease their plight.

In China, authorities are considering legalising the detention of people considered a threat to national security, a move that would put lawyers and Christian human rights campaigners at risk.

There are additional concerns that the change in leadership later in 2012 may prompt authorities to tighten their grip on Christians and potential dissidents.

Bob Fu, of partner organisation China Aid, said: “Religious freedom conditions are at their lowest point since 1982.”In countries with large Muslim and Hindu populations, the prevalence of apostasy charges against believers is a “worrying trend”, the charity said.

In addition to Hindu and Muslim converts, accusations are being levelled against evangelists and other existing believers who speak about their faith.

Political rhetoric has turned increasingly against Christians in Iran, where the Christian faith is regarded as a threat to the Islamic revolution.

Christians have been arrested, beaten, imprisoned and killed for their faith there. Other forms of harassment include expelling Christians from jobs and universities, phone tapping and using relatives to spy on them.

Release’s partners warn that the persecution of Christians in Pakistan is “increasing day by day” as radical Islam continues to spread.

Two senior government ministers, Salman Taseer and Shahbaz Bhatti, were murdered by extremists after calling for reform of the notorious blasphemy laws.

Other areas of concern for the coming year include Nigeria, where dozens have been killed in Christmas Day church attacks. Boko Haram, the Islamist militant group claiming responsibility, wants to impose strict Sharia law on the country.

While India may be the world’s largest democracy and one of the fastest growing economies, there are signs of a “growing hostility” towards Christians and Christian witness, Release said.

Christians have been particularly alarmed by a recent call from the Hindu militant group Vishva Hindu Parishad to change the constitution to allow “anyone who converts Hindus to be beheaded”.

Anti-conversion laws are being interpreted to mean a ban on evangelism and some pastors have been accused of converting Hindus by force, Release said.

Others of concern include central Asian countries and Sri Lanka, where churches are being forced to register with the authorities.

Andy Dipper, chief executive of Release International, said: “Across the world, the number of Christians imprisoned for their faith looks set to increase in 2012.

“In the new year please make it a priority to pray for members of our Christian family who face persecution and offer your practical support. The economic climate may be getting harder in the UK, but we still have our freedom.

“And that includes freedom to pray, support and speak out for our brothers and sisters who are suffering for their faith.”
