“We are grateful to God today that moral sense has prevailed at the court. This has been a long time coming and shows great promise for the future…”

In a long-awaited victory for those upholding life, the U.S. Supreme Court, Supreme Court JudgesWednesday, voted 5-4 in favor of the 2003 ban on partial birth abortion. (Photo: AP)

Justice Anthony Kennedy, siding with the majority—which included Justices Alito, Thomas, Scalia and Chief Justice Roberts—stated that the opponents of the ban “have not demonstrated that the Act would be unconstitutional in a large fraction of relevant cases.”

According to the AP/Washington Post report, the decision was the first time the court had banned a specific procedure in relation to how and not if an abortion should be performed.

Rev. Rob Schenck, President of the National Clergy Council, said in response to the vote, “We are grateful to God today that moral sense has prevailed at the court. This has been a long time coming and shows great promise for the future. Make no mistake, this is the beginning of the end for Roe v. Wade.”
