TORONTO, Ontario, July 4, 2016 ( – A Catholic contemporary Christian band from India has sold out two venues in the Toronto this coming weekend with a hard-hitting message aimed at youth.

Rexband is the musical outreach of the Jesus Youth Movement, which sprang up in Kerala, India’s southernmost state when many charismatic youth groups merged in 1985 to mark the International Year of Youth. Now, Jesus Youth International Director of Youth Formation Manoj Sunny told LifeSite News, it has a presence in 30 countries, always with a strong pro-life theme.

Rexband, which started in 1991,adopted the same pro-life thrust in 1995, said Manoj, after “Pope John Paul II gave out the call to build a ‘culture of life’ in his encyclical Evangelium Vitae.” Since then, said Manoj, “a pro-life message has been at the centre of all of our concerts, wherever we go, irrespective of the country or culture in which we are called to perform.”

At the heart of Rexband’s concerts is a dramatization “The Silent Scream. ” Says Manoj, “It’s about the cry of an unborn child that was aborted, having been in the mother’s womb for just three months.”

The play is followed by prayer for women who’ve aborted their children and the children themselves. Sometimes this is followed by personal testimonies by people wounded in different ways by abortion. Manoj recalled one presenter “whose mother had attempted an abortion unsuccessfully and who later went on to become a doctor.”

Great healing can take place as a result of the presentations, Manoj’s wife Beena told LifeSite News. She describes how one woman came to them the day after one of Rexband’s concerts at the World Youth Day in Toronto, admitting that she had been so moved by it, “The Spirit had convicted her of her sin in having aborted her child conceived out of wedlock when she was young, how she found a priest and went for confession right after the concert and thus came back to the church after 25 years.”

Manoj said Rexband has always done the dramatization regardless of how much time their hosts have allotted, presenting it in 20 countries and five World Youth Days since 1995.

Jesus Youth Canada is sponsoring the Ontario events, in Markam on July 8 and the Kingdom Ministries Hall on July 9.

Jesus Youth International also holds seminars and workshops, participates in Marches for Life in many countries and supports agencies that help mothers keep their babies.
