“I’ve been protected, I’ve been directed and I’ve been corrected. I’ve kept God in my life and it’s kept me humble. I didn’t always stick with Him, but He always stuck with me…”

Promising to “keep it short,” Denzel began his 3-point message with the words, “Put God first. Put God first in everything you do… Everything that I have is by the grace of God.”

The actor told the grads of a conversation with his mother shortly after his career began to take off. He came to her touting all the things “he” had accomplished… She told him, “Boy, stop it right there.”

And Denzel’s mother proceeded to tell him of all the people who had prayed for him, as well as her own prayers, reminding him that it was him, but God who had made it happen.

He spoke about not just dreaming big, but having goals, and working hard to accomplish those goals.

Denzel’s 3rd point was, “You’ll never see a U-haul behind a Hearse! I don’t care how much money you make, you can’t take it with you… It’s not how much you have, it’s what you DO with what you have.” (Photo via Fox News Insider)

“That’s where the joy is—in helping others, that’s where the success is—in helping others.

“True desire in the heart—for what you want to do—that’s God’s proof to you, sent beforehand, to indicate to you that it’s yours,” said Denzel. “Anything you want—that’s good—you can have. So claim it, work hard to get it, and when you get it, reach back and pull someone else up.

“Don’t just aspire to make a living; aspire to make a difference.”
