Further to our recent media release about the City of Casey Council issuing the permit to build a controversial Mosque in Doveton last week, while VCAT had received an application against this development from Catch the Fire Ministries.

In a surprise turn of events, CTFM received a letter from VCAT dated 16th April 2013 requesting CTFM to attend a VCAT hearing within 48 hours on Thursday 18th April at 2:15pm, at 55 King St, Melbourne.

This morning Pastor Daniel Nalliah of Catch the Fire Ministries stated, “I’m surprised and shocked for what is very clearly a VCAT error in instructing the City of Casey Council (as stated by the Council) that there were no complaints lodged against the proposed Doveton Mosque permit, while there was very clearly a complaint lodged by CTFM on 28th March 2013, within the 21 day period for which VCAT confirmed by email notification.

Now, why should CTFM incur an unnecessary cost to hire lawyers and planning consultants to represent us at this hearing today on Thursday 18th April at 2.15pm?

I hope that VCAT will acknowledge its mistake and reimburse all costs incurred by us and reinstruct the City of Casey Council to revoke the issued permit for the Doveton Mosque to be built”
