I heard this story about the Christmas Tree tradition, and have found it very helpful:

The story goes that St. Boniface of Mainz (who came originally from Crediton in Devon) was ministering in what is now Germany, during the times when pagans made sacrifices to their local gods. Apparently, Boniface was in the forest one winters day when he came across some people about to sacrifice a child. They believed that if they did this, the cold, dark, ‘dead’ season of winter would cease, and the sun would return, bringing warmth and light with it.

Boniface dissuaded them from doing this, using the example of the pine tree, which is evergreen, to show how even in the wintertime God causes life to continue. Further, Boniface explained to them that God had sacrificed His son , Jesus, so that no-one would have to make any further blood sacrifice.

This is supposedly why people decorate pine trees at Christmastime- to celebrate the coming of the Christ Child, in the middle of winter, giving us the assurance that God has not abandoned us to death.

    I hope this will be as useful to you as it has been to me;

Happy Christmas to you and all your fellowship.

A Christmas 2010 and New Year 2011 message

    Especially for you!

At this time of wonder we celebrate the birth of Jesus.

With our greetings this year we bring two important messages.

In 2009 whilst we were in worship at a conference in Guildford Cathedral,
John had a vision of Jesus in which He said to him “I am coming
again…soon, tell them.” Since that time John was told he must tell them
that “Jesus is coming again……..soon” Tell them “The Lord is coming
again soon!” TELL THEM. So that was our message last year.

The 2010 Christmas/New Year message from the Lord Jesus Christ is:-

“Behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens
the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.”
    (Revelation 3 v 20)

There are many who have not opened the doors of their hearts and really let
Jesus in, choosing to put it off – perhaps through being busy, or even
ignoring or rejecting His message, we ask you, “examine whether this may be
so in your own families or churches”.

“I am coming soon. Continue strong in your faith so no one will take away
    your crown.” (Revelation 3 v 11 NCV)

“Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be
called children of God! (1 John 3 v1)

“and you yourselves be like men who wait for their master, when he will
return..that when he comes and knocks they may open to him immediately.”
    (Luke 12 v 36)

“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but
    My Father only.” (Matthew 24 v 36)

    1. “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice
and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also
overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. He who has an ear, let
him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” (Revelation 3 v 20 – 22)

    2. “And Pilate said to them, “Behold the Man!” (John 19 v 5)

    3. “And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, “Behold the Lamb of
    God!” (John 1 v 36)

May it truly be a special time of celebration this Christmas and New Year

It’s Always the Season for the Christmas Story
    by Dr. Larry

The Christmas story is a wonderful story. The birth of Jesus, the wise men, the shepherds, the manger, and all the other events of Christmas are glorious. However, the Christmas season is not just a seasonal holiday. It is the commemoration of the birth of our Lord Jesus.

Most Christians and theologians agree that Jesus was not born on the 25th of December. However, it is the day that we set aside once a year to publicly acknowledge to the world that Jesus Christ was born. The date is not important. The event is. The date is only a 24-hour time period. The event changed the world and the universe for all eternity.

The birth of Jesus was the beginning of the earthly manifestation of God’s plan to reconcile man back to Himself. Several years after the resurrection of Jesus, Paul, in his letter to the Romans, talked about how those who believed in Jesus were reconciled to God through the death of Jesus. Actually the birth of Jesus is not just the Christmas story. But the birth of Jesus is the beginning of the salvation story and all of the story should be told all of the time.

Several years ago I was talking to a fellow minister about some of the miraculous things that took place at the birth of Jesus. We got very excited in our conversation. Then he looked at me and said, “I can hardly wait until Christmas so I can teach this at church.” His statement struck a nerve inside of me. And that day I realized that too many ministers and Christians only talk about the birth of Jesus one Sunday a year.

The Christmas story is a wonderful story, but Jesus should never be reduced to a holiday icon. He is the Savior of the world who was born of a virgin, fathered by the Spirit of God, ministered on the earth, and laid down His life as the once and for all sacrifice. He did all this as He pressed toward the goal of fulfilling the Father’s plan.

This year as we celebrate Christmas let’s keep the knowledge, understanding, and spirit of Christmas fresh everyday throughout the year.

For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. (Romans 5:10)

  18. 18 Angie

Thank you so much for all your encouraging messages ! I have been blest and will continue to pray for our great nation to be saved, may His kingdom continue to come in our hearts, as we learn more and more to love! May God Bless and keep you all, and 2011 be the year of FULLFILLMENT for us all !

    Love Angie
Hope to see you JAN. 26th

LUKE 2:10:11″And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.11For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

    Good Day
It is with great joy in my heart that i welcome you into another great week of great and greater experience. It is the week that many will be celebrating the Birth of our great Lord and saviour Jesus Christ who came in a human flesh sent by God as His only begotten son to die for the sins of the whole world and who is now seated at the Right hand of God interceeding for me and you.He is the reason for this season!!!!

I dont believe much in the Date because i have done allot of reseaserch and found out that the Outhordox church made a mistake in the date of the Messiah of the whole world but for the Fact that His Name is been called upon on that Date it worths celebrating Him and the work that He did for me and you. LUKE CHAPTER 2 STATES IT ALL.

Today and this week Lets celebrate Him for all He has done.He saved us from sin,He gave us new life.He liberated us and HE died on the Cross of Calvary for me and you and in Luke chapter 2 states that he started as a human and was born by a virgin called mary.

As you Rejoice with those that rejoices this week,May the Lord open your eyes to see the Importance of Jesus Birth,His death and His resurection and may you not celebrate like the world is doing without knowing but may you celebrate knowing whom you are celebrating for and what HE did.

Also Endeavour to share with people in need this week .Give to the poor and the needy and support the Work that Jesus Our Lord started on earth many years ago before ascending to heaven to be with the father.Share with me for the people that are poor here and pray for my health

    May You be Blessed!!!!
    Compliments of the Season!!!!!
