The Parliament of the World’s Religions has caused us considerable concern over recent years as it promotes interfaith activities and puts all religions on a ‘level playing field’.

The next Parliament of the World’s Religions will be held in Melbourne in December 2009.
In Melbourne today, Thursday 6 December, there is a ‘launch’ to promote the Parliament and start taking registrations.

Of particular concern is that some Christians are actively promoting the event as something that ‘real’ Christians should endorse. Yes, ‘real’ is the word used! With the quote marks!

The official “Christian Media Alert” encourages Christian radio to support and promote the event and says “Some 200 religious and spiritual leaders will stand side-by-side at the launch, from Christian bishops to Muslim imams, Jewish rabbis, Hindu priests, Buddhist teachers and more.”
This ‘Christian Media Alert’ named Tim Costello and Rowland Croucher as promoting this event.
More on this aspect below… First, what is the Parliament of the World’s Religions’?

The Parliament of the World’s Religions

This Parliament is an interfaith gathering, held every five years, where people from every world religion will come together and present their faith. Although it is said that there will not be worship services where all groups worship together, meeting together in this way means that our Christian witness is compromised. It is extremely difficult in such circumstances to claim that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life as He himself claimed. One is expected not to criticise other religions or to evangelise people who follow other religions.

One of the aims is to promote peace – one example of this said to be Catholic theologian Hans Kung’s statement that “there can be no peace unless there is peace between the religions”. However even within religions there is conflict, with Muslims fighting Muslims, Sikhs opposing Sikhs and Christians disagreeing with Christians.

Many significant people are supporting this event. The Chief patron is the Governor Professor David de Kretser AC. There are 11 other patrons including Tim Costello, Sir James Gobbo, Sheik Fehmi, Dame Elizabeth Murdoch, Professor James Haire,  Rabbi John Levi and Simon McKeon.

The Chair of the Melbourne Parliament of the World’s Religions is Prof Gary Bouma (who was a witness for the Islamic Council against Daniel Scot and Danny Nalliah).

The Program Director is Professor Des Cahill. Both are representatives of the World Conference of Religion and Peace and both were authors of the book ‘Religion, Cultural Diversity and Safeguarding Australia’. See our website page on those books at

The Board includes people from the Australian Multicultural Foundation, the Victorian Council of Churches, the Interfaith Centre and the Australian Intercultural Society (a Muslim group) and Yasser Soliman.
The list of those involved in these ways is at

So who are the Christians involved in promoting this Parliament to evangelical Christians?

A media release has been circulated to Christian media, encouraging radio stations to do interviews about the Parliament of the World’s Religions in order to get evangelical Christians to support this event…
This is attached.

The media news grabs were done by Tim Costello, one of the ‘patrons’ for the event.

The media contact for doing radio interviews on Christian radio is Rowland Croucher, who runs a ministry supporting pastors called John Mark Ministries. He is a speaker, counsellor an author and was a Baptist minister.

The media alert says he “believes strongly that interfaith activities are something that ‘real’ Christians need to be involved in”.

It says “Many honest evangelical Christians are simply fearful of the term ‘interfaith’ and fear that it involves giving up too much i.e. ‘selling out’ their own beliefs or ‘bowing down’ to other gods. Rowland can talk about the Biblical foundations of dialogue with people of different backgrounds, and can speak about the benefits to individual Christians of talking to others about their faith and seeking to understand what other people believe.”

However there is a huge difference between speaking to people about our faith where we can tell them about Jesus Christ AND meeting in these interfaith gatherings where people are expected to respect the ‘faith’ of the person as well as the person themselves.

We are concerned about this encouragement to Christians to support this event…

Support for the event provided by . . .

The state government has supported the Parliament of the World’s Religions and offered to provide $2 million of funding for the event. The federal government has provided the same amount.

Melbourne City Council has supported the event by providing $500,000 of financial and in-kind support.

There is no middle ground on this issue. Interfaith is of the devil, it is an unequal yoking and must be exposed for what it is.

2 Cor 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
2 Cor 6:15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
2 Cor 6:16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
2 Cor 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
2 Cor 6:18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

Interfaith is unclean and is not fit to be touched with hands that have been cleansed by the Blood of Jesus.

14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers [do not make mismatched alliances with them or come under a different yoke with them, inconsistent with your faith]. For what partnership have right living and right standing with God with iniquity and lawlessness? Or how can light have fellowship with darkness?
15 What harmony can there be between Christ and Belial [the devil]? Or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever?
16 What agreement [can there be between] a temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God; even as God said, I will dwell in and with and among them and will walk in and with and among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
17 So, come out from among [unbelievers], and separate (sever) yourselves from them, says the Lord, and touch not [any] unclean thing; then I will receive you kindly and treat you with favor,
18 And I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.

It is amazing that so called Christian leaders are able to do what our Lord Jesus Christ could not do and bring all religions together so we could have world peace.
May be the Jesus they are representing is not the Jesus of the Holy Bible.
Our Lord said there shall arise false Christ and false prophets and deceive many and the time will come when he who would kill you will think he is doing Gods service, Matthew 24.
A true beliver of the Bible knows that this world will not get better as we can see, and many so called Christians now are denying the truths of the Bible as Paul the apostle told us in
2 Thessalonians chapter 2, so who are these people that love not the TRUTH?
We may soon find out what is really behind the one world church and govement and what their end plan is.
The underground church in China may be a good example of what is coming to the true church of Jesus Christin the western world

    Dear Danny

    Thank you for this information.

I will ring Tim Costello and congratulate him for supporting this important event.

    Kind regards

Thankyou for this information. I don’t see a problem with the Parliament
of World Churches. Nobody is forcing anyone to attend. You have your faith conviction and others have theirs. After all Jesus said the greatest law is
Love God and Love your neighbour as yourself. He did not say only love your neighbour if he is a follower of Christ.
If you care to look around you you will see that many people of other faith traditions love God and their neighbour and show it and would put those who profess to be christians to shame.

    May God bless you
