Dear Friends and Family in Christ,

Possibly you would be aware that over the past weekend the newspapers across the nation have reported several alarming statements by Prime Minister elect Kevin Rudd (who professes Christianity as his personal faith) regarding ‘God and Politics’. Many Christian leaders across Australia have promoted Kevin Rudd as an alternative Christian candidate to former PM John Howard. Unfortunately (or fortunately), within a week of being elected as Australia’s new Prime Minister, Mr. Rudd is making it very clear where he truly stands now. Following is the beginning of the article ‘Public servants will advise me, not God: Rudd’ from the Daily Telegraph on Friday November 30th 2007.

‘Public servants will advise me, not God: Rudd’  – Daily Telegraph

KEVIN Rudd makes no secret of his religious beliefs, but as prime minister he says he’ll take advice from public servants, not God.The committed Christian says he is not praying for guidance on how to run the country. Mr Rudd said he would keep religion and politics separate.

“I go to church on Sunday like millions of other Australians, and I am always conscious in the business of politics of what I don’t know, and therefore the need to seek advice,” Mr Rudd told Southern Cross Broadcasting in Melbourne. “That’s usually obtained, however, from well-crafted reports from public service advisers.”

Mr Rudd said his faith had been part and parcel of his life for 30 years. While it would colour his decisions, it would not play a major role, he said.

“I’m as flawed and failed as the next person when it comes to living up to the high standards laid down by the principles of Christianity,” he said. “That’s part of who I am, that’s part of who I’ll be in the future.

“But I’ve always said when it comes to the business of government, it’s a process where rational discussion, rational debate, rational decision-making must be at the absolute core, but always informed by deep values of what is decent and fair for people.”

Further is an excerpt from the Herald Sun Newspaper on Saturday December 1st 2007 regarding Rudd, God and Politics. ‘Confirmation of one of Rudd’s main election promises came as he declared he was not praying for divine guidance on how to run the country, preferring to take advice from public servants.’

Mr Rudd “But I’ve always said when it comes to the business of government, it’s a process where rational discussion, rational debate, rational decision-making must be at the absolute core, but always informed by deep values of what is decent and fair for people.”

He clearly played the ‘Christian’ card during the election, more than any previous Prime Ministerial contender. He has been welcomed, congratulated, even spoken highly of, by church spokesmen across the country. But reading the article below, just how much is he going to listen to God when making tough decisions?

“Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.” Proverbs 11: 14
Of course there is a need to listen to the practical guidance of many people, including Public Servants, but we need to pray that Mr Rudd will always put GOD’S guidance, based on His Word and His Values, ahead of political expediency.

The article below, from today’s newspaper, gives cause for apprehension. The headline is the Newspaper Editors, but the words in quotes are Mr Rudd’s – you be the judge.

Mr Rudd, and all his government, will need all the prayer support they can get to make the ‘right’ decisions and to uphold righteousness. A great deal of pressure will be exerted by those who have no god, and/or those who listen/serve other false gods.

    Might he always remember that…
“Righteousness exalts a nation – Sin is a reproach to any people” Proverbs 14:34 (NKJ)
When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan”. Proverbs 29:2 (NKJ)

    Dear Friends,

I am amazed to see that in print and for him to say this so forcefully, he truly will have to answer to our Lord God Almighty! We must pray for him to change!!! That was our advent sermon on Sunday evening at Wesley Mission which was very challenging. Jesus is the only one who does not change but we have to look to Him to help us change and be more like Him.

    Blessings to all. Kay

I’m a Christian and voted for Rudd. I think he’s going to do a fine job. The reality is that he is representing all Australians not just Christians and there will be times when we won’t agree with what the Government does. Many of Howard’s decisions were far from Christian values anyway. The reliance on politics that many of you are showing exposes a lack of faith and individual responsibility. I probably won’t support every desicion Rudd makes but whatever happens I’m going to keep sharing the gospel because that transcends politics. Our effectiveness as Christians does not hinge on Rudd

Many will disagree, but the truth hurts! Rudd is a Catholic, not a CHRISTIAN! Catholics follow the Popes and their man-made traditions which make the gospel of no value! If catholic doctrine differs from the bible, the bible is wrong , according to them! Sorry folks, its CHRIST ONLY ALWAYS!!
