Also, Following is an excerpt from the article, ’Heaviest rain in 20 months’, in the Herald Sun on Monday November 5, 2007 by Sarah Wotherspoon.
‘MORE than 100mm of rain fell in parts of Victoria at the weekend as the state received its best soaking in four months. The highest falls were recorded at Benwerrin (141mm), Cowwarr Weir (116mm), Glenmaggie Creek (114mm) and Weeaproinah (127mm). A weather bureau spokesman said over the weekend Melbourne had the most rain for almost two years, with 30mm. The rainfall was the heaviest it has been since February 26, 2006. Weather bureau duty forecaster Oliver Lemmel said the rainfall was the heaviest and most widespread since July. “This was a very well-formed system and a lot of ingredients were right for the rain . . . we get these low pressure systems maybe once a year,” he said. “Large parts of the state were affected by good, heavy rain, often the rainfall is centralised in one or two districts.” The falls boosted Melbourne’s water supplies, which rose 0.1 per cent in a day to 39.9 per cent capacity. Melbourne Water spokesman Ben Pratt said the rainfall was welcome for Melbourne’s parks and gardens and the city’s catchments. ‘
