A FRINGE Christian pastor known for comments attacking Muslims has led a prayer session in Parliament House — and given Prime Minister John Howard a strong endorsement.

Pastor Danny Nalliah, president of Catch the Fire Ministries Victoria, yesterday prayed for rain and for a Christian leader to win the election before hundreds of worshippers who descended on Capital Hill.

“We need to support the party that will give us the best Judeo-Christian values … in this election we really throw our weight behind the Coalition,” he told The Age.

Mr Howard had planned to attend the mass prayer session but instead conveyed a message encouraging people to pray for rain.

Pastor Nalliah was accused by the Islamic Council of Victoria of vilifying Muslims in 2002. The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal found he had vilified Islam in 2005, but the Victorian Court of Appeal quashed the verdict.

Throughout the case Pastor Nalliah received support from Treasurer Peter Costello. The pastor had meetings with Mr Costello and Mr Howard in August.

Yesterday he expressed doubts about Opposition Leader Kevin Rudd’s religious beliefs, pointing to Mr Rudd not confirming Jesus as the Son of God when asked on SBS in September.

Ikebal Patel, chairman of the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils, said it was inappropriate for Catch the Fire to lead prayers at Parliament or endorse Mr Howard.

Sydney’s Anglican Diocese distanced itself from the event.

The Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney said it did not know anything about the prayer meeting, and did not endorse it.

Labor, which has criticised Mr Howard’s links to the Exclusive Brethren cult, had no comment.

Keep up the great work guys and ensure KRUDD and Dillard are exposed for the fact that they want to introduce a religious vilification law nationwide which would silence christians

Praise God that He has placed Danny in this country for such times as these. We pray that God will continue to strengthen and equip Danny with even more boldness in the times to come.
